Jubilee, Web Site, and More!
We began the first day of the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee with an "appearance" on KFBK's morning show. To hear the music/interview, and see some candid photos, check out http://www.kfbk.com/pages/KFBKMorningNews.html. It was great fun. I haven't seen Amy Lewis in a few years, and she's still stunning.
First couple of sets with Pieces of Us were pretty good, methinks. Firehouse Courtyard is becoming a favorite site at Jubilee, barring the Crest, I spose. Shady, intimate yet roomy, a little insulated, and great folks. The set there today went extremely well. The Delta King should have been splendid and perfect (it's a theater, after all), but it was so damn hot on the stage! Ohmigod. Thot the guys were going to have to be wheeled out. Get thee some fans! (Chuck tells me professional orchestras have union clocks and thermometers in their rehearsal halls. They may say it's to protect their oboes, not to mention their lips, but we know better.) The audience was comfortable, though, and we were introduced by my good friend Don Angel. That was a nice surprise. Overall, and considering the impending heat strokes, the set went pretty well. The audience was certainly nice about it.
We had incredible food from an Indonesian deli and the adjoining Laszlo's Smoked Salmon shop, near the Delta King on 1st Street. There was a dude playing "I Can See Clearly Now" on a Casio in the deli, and hearing him made it quite the perfect little experience. He had a variety of cuban drum beats going for awhile.

Sac Jazz Fest coming up!
Chuck Bond and I are hard at work mixing and producing the new CD for Parlor Jam, and we're hoping to have it ready by the Sac fest. In the meantime, I have a new CD available featuring yours truly on vocals and the fabulous ragtime pianist Mark Allin Jones. This CD features songs written from 1910 to 1920, all of which were performed by Sophie Tucker. If you like ragtime and excellent piano chops, you'll dig this CD. Produced by Craig Wright, who is also scheduling a Sophie Tucker show and festival next January. More details on that later!
Finally, Laura Hohlwein is doing a great job on the new website. Can't wait to see it all completed!
